Viewfinder: People don’t connect with perfect, they connect with real.
Bespoke photography isn’t just about having nice photos taken. It’s building a visual identity that actually reflects the experience customers have when they choose you. People don’t connect with perfect - they connect with real.
Last week I photographed the team at Move Ilkley - a small personal training studio, run by two women who’ve built something that feels warm, welcoming and supportive. It’s not about “fitness industry perfect” or rows of intimidating machines, just a genuinely lovely space filled with personality, community and people who clearly care about what they do.
The images we created on the shoot are a great example of why professional business photography matters - no stock image library I know of could possibly contain the look, feel and warmth of Move.
We all regularly hear that bespoke photography ‘tells a story’ - but what does that actually mean?
It means helping potential customers get a feel for:
the way your customers are greeted
your actual space
the atmosphere
your team
your energy
your regular clients
the tiny details that make people feel comfortable enough to walk through the door
Okay, AI-generated imagery can look polished (but lets face it, its mostly naff) and I’m not saying stock photography can’t look professional. But neither can show authenticity, and in 2026, when people are being bombarded with increasingly polished content every second of the day, authenticity has quietly become one of the most valuable marketing tools a business can have.
When somebody lands on your website or social media, they’re making snap decisions:
Does this place feel trustworthy?
Can I picture myself here?
Are these my kind of people?
Does this business feel human?
Real photography answers those questions immediately. That’s why bespoke photography isn’t just about ‘having nice photos taken’. It’s building a visual identity that actually reflects the experience customers have when they choose you. People don’t connect with perfect - they connect with real.
