Personal Projects: Glorious Portmeirion
On 2 May I was in the area, so decided to visit Portmeirion. I’ve wanted to go for ages but usually have the dogs with me and they’re not allowed so not really had the chance before. Being dog-free this time I decided to go for it, and the weather delivered a beautiful bright day - perfect for the camera and for a walk through the twisty turny paths 📷
Portmeirion is a popular tourist village located in Gwynedd, North Wales. It was designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1973 in the style of an Italian village. The village is known for its picturesque and colorful buildings, beautiful gardens, and stunning views of the surrounding estuary and mountains. I knew it was going to be quirky and unique but didn’t realise just how gorgeous it is. Every archway seemed to lead to another stunning view and set of pathways and viewpoints.
Portmeirion has been a popular filming location for films and television shows, most notably as the setting for the cult classic TV series "The Prisoner" in the 1960s (I’ve never seen it). The village has also hosted events and festivals over the years, apparently attracting visitors from all over the world. It was also featured in one of my favourite ever tv programmes, Cold Feet :)
In addition to its architectural beauty, Portmeirion also has a few small shops, cafes, restaurants, and places to stay. The hotel looks beautiful and I’d love to stay there one day. The village is set in a peaceful coastal location, with gorgeous views over the sand. If you’re ever in north Wales, I’d totally recommend a visit. ✨
